
Why Gallium Iodide Lamps Actually Matter for Your Textile Line
If you’ve spent any time on a production floor, you know that UV curing is basically the hidden heartbeat of the whole operation. It’s what turns raw fabric into a finished product you can actually sell. We make Gallium Iodide (GaI) lamps because standard mercury lamps just don’t always cut it. Most textile adhesives and specialty inks need a very specific kind of light—mostly in the UV-A and UV-B ranges—to really set. That’s exactly where our GaI lamps live. Getting through the thick stuff Here is the real problem with standard UV: it often just bounces off the surface, especially if you’re working with heavy coatings or inks with a lot of pigment. It’s frustrating. You think it’s cured, but the bond is weak. By using a Gallium Iodide discharge medium, we shift the light’s peak. This lets the energy actually punch through the material. It doesn’t just sit on top; it reaches all the way down to the substrate. You get a bond that actually holds. Fitting them into your setup You don’t need to rip out your entire line to use these. We designed them to be drop-in replacements for your existing UV tunnels. Industrial looms and conveyor belts shake. A lot. We built these lamps to handle that constant vibration without cracking or failing. They’re high-wattage for a reason—you can’t afford to slow down your line speed just because your lamps can’t keep up. One quick heads-up: check your ballast. The GaI arc has its own voltage needs. If your power supply is too weak, the lamps will flicker or just burn out way too soon. It’s a simple fix, but a huge headache if you forget it. Where this actually helps We usually see these lamps doing the heavy lifting in three spots: Screen printing: Getting those graphics dry the second they hit the light. Chemical finishes: Locking in flame-retardants or water-repellent coatings. No-stitch bonding: Gluing hems and reinforcements so you can skip the sewing machine. But, there is a trade-off. These lamps gethot*. Really hot. If your cooling fans quit or your conveyor is moving too slowly, you’re going to warp your fabric or, worse, scorch it. Just make sure your cooling system is dialed in, and you’re good to go.
