
Getting Your UV Curing Right for High-Speed Printing
We spent some time at the 2026 Printing Exhibition showing off our custom UV lamp modules. Now, these aren’t your typical “buy it off the shelf” bulbs. We build these specifically to keep up with the kind of crazy line speeds and tricky ink chemistries you’re dealing with in a modern shop. The balancing act: Intensity vs. Heat The real secret to a great UV module is how you balance the wattage and the focal length. We look at exactly how much power (that mW/cm²) is hitting the surface. When you’re printing at high speeds, you need a massive burst of power to get that ink to set in a fraction of a second. But here’s the catch: that much power makes things hot. Really hot. If you don’t have a solid cooling system—whether that’s forced air or water-cooled jackets—to pull the heat away from the quartz, that glass is going to crack under the stress. Nobody wants to deal with that mid-shift. Building things that actually fit We use high-purity quartz because it lets the UV light through without soaking it up. And we know you don’t want to rip out your entire production line just to upgrade a lamp. That’s why we design these as drop-in replacements. We machine the housing to fit right into your existing conveyor frames. Plus, we use industrial-grade connectors. Why? Because when a machine is vibrating 24/7, you don’t want high-voltage arcs jumping around. Finding the “Sweet Spot” There’s always a trade-off. Sure, cranking up the intensity lets you run the line faster. But all that power creates infrared heat. If you’re working with thin plastics and you push the wattage too hard to cure a thick layer of ink, your substrate is going to warp. It’s a bit of a dance. You have to balance the UV output with what your material can actually handle. We’ll work with you to find that perfect middle ground where the ink is rock-solid but the material stays perfectly flat. These things are built for the grit of a 24/7 shop floor. They’re going to get hit with dust and ink splatter. We’ve designed the shielding so you can just wipe it down and get back to work without accidentally knocking the lamp out of alignment.
