How the Physics Actually Works
We use high-pressure mercury discharge to throw out a broad spectrum of UV light, mostly hitting those UVC and UVB ranges. That’s where the magic happens for ink curing. But here’s the thing: you have to balance your lamp’s power with how fast your line is moving. If your conveyor is flying and your wattage is too low, the ink stays tacky and rubs right off. But if you crawl too slowly? You’ll end up scorching your substrate. It’s a bit of a balancing act.
The Trade-offs You Need to Know

You’re paying for that light, so it might as well actually reach the ink. There’s also the heat. These bulbs put out a ton of infrared energy along with the UV. If your cooling fans are clogged or just too weak, the bulb is going to burn out way too fast—or worse, warp your fixtures. They’re built to handle the grit of a real shop, but they aren’t magic. You need stable voltage. Without it, you’ll get flickering and your electrodes will wear out before they should.
